[birdky] Sloughs Wed. and Backyard Obs.

10/15/08
7:30AM to 10:30AM
65º clear rising to 80º

Hardy Slough area, and Pond Creek Marsh
I did not wade the impoundments or walk the dikes.

Highlights:

A "murder of crows" on 268. Just before the Sloughs I came upon over 100 Crows on the road in group.
They looked like they were feeding, but I never could figure out what.

Com. Yellowthroat
E. Phoebe
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker FOS
Great Egrets, 11 at PCM
House Wren
Turkey 10
Black-throated Green Warbler
Indigo Buntings
Yellow-rumped Warblers
N. Harrier

Backyard notes:
Hummingbird on the 10th, 13th, & 15th.

In my backyard I have a Bald Cypress. In that tree over the past 2 weeks I have seen:
Yellow-rumped Warblers
Magnolia Warblers
Palm Warblers
Ruby Crowned Kinglet
Black-throated Green Warbler

I assume they are feeding on these small caterpillars that sometimes are hanging from the tree. The Palm Warbler has also been hawking insects from the air near the tree.
