7Am to Noon
56º overcast, damp, NW breeze, rising to 62º and partly cloudy
In order I covered Pond Creek Marsh, Gentle Pond, and Hardy Slough
We received very little rain last night, but the promised front came
through.
A small impoundment at Gentle Pond is being flooded.
Two impoundments are flooded at Hardy Slough.
Muddy Slough (between Hardy Slough and the Shorebird Unit) is flooded.
Most of Pond Creek Marsh is very firm, just a small pond of water at
the sand spit.
The field across from Wood Tract has been combined of soybeans & was
being planted (with wheat?) on Wednesday.
The impoundment north of 268 between the two roads back to PCM has
been flooded and a small flock of Mallards was present early on
Thursday.
Highlights:
Small flocks of Mallards and Canada Geese were flying around early,
but were apparently settled by midmorning.
Bald Eagles: 3 adults
Turkey 11
White-throated Sparrows
Belted Kingfisher
Swamp Sparrows
Eastern Towhee
Yellow-rumped Warblers
Wood Ducks: 4 at Gentle Pond
Golden Crowned Kinglets 3
White-crowned Sparrow FOS
Great Egrets: 11 at PCM
Dark-eyed Junco

Com. Yellowthroat
Sora: 2 flushed at Hardy Slough as I was walking one of the dikes
E. Meadowlarks
Am. Coot: none sighted alive. But, I found a fresh kill (still limp)
along the dike.
A mess of feathers, but the body was missing: just the neck and head
remained.
