[birdky] Sloughs Sunday

Today I thought I'd visit some Sloughs areas that I have been neglecting recently.

5/7/06
6:30am to 4pm
55º overcast w/light rain, rain was over by 8, by 2 it was partly sunny, rising to 65º

In order I visited Cape Hills Unit until 1, then 268 slough, Horseshoe Road slough, Grassy Pond/Powell's Lake Unit

FOS:

Wood duck family
Acadian Flycatcher
E. Wood Peewee
Wood Thrush
Veery
Golden-winged W. 2
Tennessee W. 25??
Chestnut-sided W.
Bay-breasted W.
Kentucky W.
Am. Redstart
Scarlet Tanager
Summer Tanager

Other Highlights:

N. Harrier
Semipalmated Plovers (everywhere there was water)
Spotted Sandpiper 4
Dunlin 2 at Horseshoe Road slough
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher pair building nest
Rose-breasted Grosbeaks: 6 males
Chipping Sparrow
13 diff. warbler sp.
A pair of Mallards at Horseshoe Road slough
Total species for the day: 81.

Tennessee W. were singing like mad but almost impossible to see. Very stealthy. The only rare glimpses I got was when they weren't singing. They were everywhere in Cape Hills.
