[birdky] Sloughs Saturday

19 May 2007

6:30am to Noon
46º clear rising to 72º

I covered 268 slough (twice), Grassy Pond/Powell's Lake Unit, Horseshoe Road slough, Shorebird Unit.

Highlights:

Lesser Yellowlegs at 268 which is deserted; the water is still high
Semipalmated Plovers 25 on sandbar in Ohio River (Union Co.)
Spotted Sandpiper 2 on the same sandbar (UC)
Great Egret at GP/PL (UC)
Green Herons 2 at GP/PL (UC)
Least Bittern 1 at GP/PL (UC)
Semipalmated Plovers 100 at Horseshoe Road slough
Black-bellied Plovers 4 at HRs
Least Sandpipers at HRs
Dunlin 35 at HRs
Cedar Waxwings
Yellow Warblers
Dickcissels (everywhere, looks like it may be a good year for them)

Shorebird Unit is drying up, & the area with water is getting weed filled. Not good for anything but Great Blue Herons.

Last weekend I looked for the Ibis but did not see it. But I did get my pants, shoes, socks soaked walking the waist high dew covered grass on the dikes.

I did not look for the Ibis this weekend.
