[birdky] Sloughs Friday & Sunday

Snowy Egret 1(full breeding plumage), Sunday 5/28, Union Co. adjacent to Mt. Vernon Road by Grassy Pond/Powell's Lake Unit.
The muddy pool was drying up with dead carp. With the Snowy was 15 Great Blues and 2 Great Egrets; all standing in a soybean field 50 to 100 feet from the pool.
Eventually the Snowy flew down and started wading the water.
First Snowy I've seen in this area in years.

5/26 clear 66º, light west wind, 6am to noon
268 slough, Gentle Pond, Pond Creek Marsh, Hardy Slough, Shorebird Impoundment, West Franklin Road slough

Highlights:
Great Egrets 11 at Shorebird Impoundment
Bald Eagles: 1 at Hardy Slough, 1 at the north nest, 1 rising out of PCM
Common Moorhen 1 heard a PCM
Black-bellied Plover 2 at West Franklin Road slough
Yellow Warbler 1 Hardy Slough


5/28 partly cloudy to clear, 70º, calm, 6am to 9:30am
268 slough, Horseshoe Road slough, Grassy Pond/Powell's Lake Unit, Mt. Vernon Road pool

Highlights:
Snowy Egret as above
Semipalmated Plover 10 @ 268 slough, 3 at GP/PL
Yellow Warbler 1 GP/PL

Even with the two evenings of storms and rain:
268 slough is drying quickly
Horseshoe Road Slough is drying quickly
but Shorebird Impoundment has lots of water and marsh plants

Shorebirds are getting scarce. No Yellowlegs seen, mainly just Killdeer & Semipalmated Plovers, and a few Least Sandpipers.
