7AM to 10:30AM
48º clear, rising to 58º, brisk SW wind
I covered Hardy Slough, Wood Tract, Anderson Pond, Crenshaw Tract, and
Jenny Hole/Highland Creek Unit.
Hardy Slough: nothing noted
Wood Tract: north of 268 ~500 Greater White-fronted geese, 2 Snow
geese (1 white & 1 blue phase), few Mallards and Shovelers
There was a lot of activity south of 268, where Wood Tract is actively
being flooded, but with the rows of high corn left in the field I was
not able to really see anything.
Anderson Pond is still filled With Mallards
Crenshaw Tract: I watched a Cooper's Hawk make passes at a Pileated
Woodpecker
Jenny Hole/Highland Creek Unit: Pair a Eagles on the nest I found in
the Spring.
In Henderson County but almost in Union County.
The body of water they have built over is called Fishtrap Slough.
With the passage of the front last night came brisk winds.
In the woods birding is difficult. The wind causes a lot of movement
in the trees.
Leaves constantly coming down is beautiful, but covers any bird
movement.
Gun deer season opens tomorrow, I think I'll stay out of the woods.
I subscribe to several bird listservs (as I'm sure many of you do).
Some of the contributors use the 4-letter codes for birds. It drives
me crazy.
On the North Florida Bird listserev was posted this link:

A humorous poem related to the use of these codes.
