Most recent Empidonax flycatcher observations from my
yard included calling Alder and Least on 9-5, and an
Acadian on 9-15.

I had an interesting non-bird observation on Tuesday
morning in the woods behind my house. I saw something
smaller than a Gray Squirrel running up a White Oak
tree and my first thought was possibly a
Flying-Squirrel. It went up to a squirrel's den about
60' up the tree. When I put my binocular on it, I saw
it was a chipmunk. I watched it for a good while as
it inspected the den which it disappeared into. I've
seen chipmunks climb around low in trees but never
this high.

I also found a wild Honey Bee hive in a Silver Maple
along the creek.

On another note, I once watched a Fox Squirrel climb a
tree and enter its den which was at least 50' high,
and a few seconds later a Flying-Squirrel bailed out
and came gliding right past me. Birding is always
more than just watching the birds.
