[birdky] Sabine's Gull 23 December 2006

The Sabine's Gull was again present today as
previously reported.  I searched unsuccessfully for a
couple of hours until it appeared about 1030 cst near
the mouth of the bay.  It spent the remainder of the
morning feeding in the northern arm of the bay and
often out of sight to the west behind a point of land.
 At one time it was seen circling well beyond and to
the south of the bay over the lake.

I was joined for a while in the afternoon by Bill
Lisowsky.  We watched the bird as it worked its way
into the southern arm of the bay where I left it
feeding at 3:30.  We were able to obtain nice views
from near the Honker Lake dam.

Northern Shoveler (179)
Common Merganser (11-12)
American White Pelican (app 250 thermalling over
Barkley plus about 20 resting on bars)
DC Cormorant (appr 350 with 2 flocks comprised of over
100 birds each southbound)
Bald Eagle (Appr 20 with 11 loafing/bathing on one
bar)
