[birdky] Rpt: black-billed cuckoos - Fishtrap Lake WMA

June 9, 2006: I was surprised to hear 3 different black-billed cuckoos
at the Fishtrap Lake Wildlife Management Area in Pike County. A first
for me on this area. The birds were spread out about a half mile apart
along the South Lake Horse Trail. The first bird seemed to be in about
the proper habitat for nesting which consisted of a natural gas line
opening on a ridge top. The forest on Fishtrap is inspiring to me due
to its canopy diversity and generally large size. Cerulean warblers are
common throughout this forest from top to bottom. If anyone made it to
the EKBC field trip at Fishtrap today (Saturday), please report your
observations from the strip mine section.
