Yesterday while at our lake I observed between 20 & 30 chimney swifts
(approximately 200 to 300 feet above the lake) congregate for a very short time
and then just disperse in different directions. I have seen 8 or 10 in a group
before but never that many and then go in different directions. This was about
1900 hrs.
Today I was at the South Shore WMA and observed the following. solitary
sandpiper 3, spotted sandpiper 1, least sandpiper 8, wood duck 2, & great blue
heron 4. One of the great blue heron's was very small in size no more than 2/3
the regular size. This juvenile was probably the one I thought was a
tricolored heron last week. It was definitely darker than the adult but also
not a tricolored heron. The sun angle was also better today. My first
juvenile great blue heron. Sorry about the mistake.
