Joe Swanson and I went down to the Cecelia area to check on the Sandhill Cranes
in advance of our scheduled outing on Saturday 2/11. We saw around 800
Sandhills. We also talked to Erin of Fish and Wildlife who had been out
counting
all day and reported over 6,000 cranes. She also indicated that they were
probably starting to head north already. Our scheduled trip on the 11th will
meet at the KMart (501 Marsailles Rd.) in Versailles down near the Garden
Center
at 7:00 so that we can get to Cecilia around 8:30. The best time for finding
cranes is around sunrise and sunset.
