To follow-up on Brainard's report of purple martin roost rings showing up on
NWS radar, I checked radar at 6:30 am EDT this morning for eastern Ky. I
clicked on the Jackson, KY radar image first. The I-75 corridor is active
as Brainard reported with roost rings evident at Lexington, Richmond and a
third ring just north of Corbin. The largest ring was visible around
Huntington, WV. Back in 2004, the Purple Martin Conservation Association
reported a large roost ring at Maysville along the Ohio River. Neither the
Maysville roost nor any other roost was visible along the Ohio River this
morning, at least on the east side of the state.
