I am really excited about the babies in the American Robin's nest (right outside my bedroom window). I can see the little beaks perk up when a parent comes to feed them. I counted three. There is something so special about these three tiny lives... it just touches my soul to see them.
I check on them all the time and had a few close calls where my heart was aching!! Once when it stormed extremely bad, I kept peeking out to make sure the nest was secure. Poor Momma was using her wings to "umbrella" the nest and just taking a beating from the hail. I wanted to go out there with an umbrella myself and help her out, but knew she wouldn't understand and that I would frighten her. Another time a bunch of Grackles were flying around and Poppa bird was fighting them off. I ran to check the nest to make sure the eggs were OK (then unhatched) and there sat Momma bird protecting them. That time I had to get involved and went out and helped Poppa tell those Grackles where to go!!!
