CKAS & ASK had a good outing to Berea this Saturday with eight of us making the
trip. We started at Jacobson Park, then headed to Berea Woods. After finishing
at Berea Woods we headed to a backyard in Berea where one of group knew where a
Virginia Rail was hanging out. The owner of the house was kind enough to let us
stand around in the yard waiting for the rail to show it's self, which it did,
giving everyone good looks. (Photos with the eBird report). A few of us then
headed over to the Madison County Grassland site where we found a Loggerhead
Shrike and singing Willow Flycatcher and Grasshopper Sparrow. We had 73 species
for the day if you include the road birds (Killdeer & Kestrel). Other
highlights included, both tanagers, both orioles, Worm-eating, Blue-winged,
Hooded and Prairie Warblers a Chat, several Pileated Woodpeckers, a pair of
singing Warbling Vireos, and a cooperative White-eyed Vireo.David LangScott
