[birdky] Recent Warren County Observations

Shorebird habitat at the transient lakes in southern
Warren County remains inconsistent with hit or miss
precipitation from thunderstorms as spring migration
winds down. McElroy has remained dry except for the
ditch. The water level at Chaney was beginning to
drop out of the vegetation but has risen slightly this
week eliminating good shorebird habitat there.
Walton's Pond has appeared briefly a few times but was
almost gone again yesterday, June 3. Following are
highlights from the past week's observations.

The Semipalmated Sandpipers did a low fly-by while I
was photographing dragonflies. The air was quiet and
still, and I was alerted to their presence only by the
sound of the wind through their wings, always one of
my favorite sounds in nature. Not finding good
habitat, they continued on their journey leaving only
a big smile in my face.
