I should have done more research (i.e., look at another field guide) before I sent this out. Sibley shows the Piping Plover posed like my photos, where you can't see that the neck band is broken (he does have a line pointing to the breastband in one of the pictures that says "usually broken", but who reads?!?). The other 3 field guides I have all show that feature plainly. Some of the other photos I have show that this bird's neck band meets solidly in the middle, So this is a pale-looking Semipalmated. ----- Original Message ----- From: geraldrobe To: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, September 13, 2009 2:22 PM Subject: [birdky] RPT/RFI--Piping Plover at Minor Clark Hatchery? Yesterday while I was birding at the hatchery, I took some photos of a small plover. At the time, I thought it was a Semipalmated Plover (there were several of those present). When I got to looking at the photos last night, I found one that looks very pale, and I think it might be a Piping Plover. I would appreciate it if some of the experts could take a look! I posted 2 pictures on my WebShots page: http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2416377620102511284dTwpoc?vhost=outdoors
