[birdky] RPT:Garvin Brown Preserve April 19 Louisville

I birded Garvin Brown Preserve yesterday from 2:30-5:30pm and had a decent day
with a few highlights. I restricted my birding to the open areas and wet areas
in hopes of catching some grassland-wetland birds so missed anything that was
moving along woodline, and besides it was windy.

Double-cr. Cormorant-10
Canada Goose
Wood Duck-3
Mallard
Blue-wg. Teal-25
Hooded Merganser- fem. with pair of Mallards trying to look inconspicuous in
drainage along parking lot-unexpected
Black Vulture-1 feeding on fish
Turkey Vulture
Red-tl. Hawk
Am. Kestrel-1
Killdeer
Rock Dove
Mourning Dove
Chimney Swift
Red-bl. Wood.
Downy Wood.
No. Flicker
Tree Swallow-a few
Bank Swallow- definitely 1 pos. 2
Barn Swallow- they are back and everywhere
Blue Jay
Am. Crow
Caro. Chick.
Tufted TIt.
White-br. Nuthatch
Caro. Wren
House Wren- singing as I was leaving
Marsh Wren- 1 almost missed him feeding so nonchalantly out in the open- best
study I have ever had of one
Am. Robin
No. Mockingbird
Brown Thrasher- 3 moving and singing together- are they community nesters can't
remember at moment
Euro. Starling
Yellow-rp. Warbler-3 maybe
No. Cardinal
Eastern Towhee
Savannah Sp.-1
Song Sp.
Swamp Sp.-8
Red-wg. Blackbird
Eastern Meadowlark
Rusty blackbird-1
Common Grackle
Brown-hd. Cowbird
House Finch
Am. Goldfinch

The pond on the other side of the entrance to Captain's Quarters off River Road
held a few more suprises:

Great Egret- 3 FOY
Great Blue Heron-1 the only one of the day
15 Blue-wg. Teal
10 Wood Duck
1 Solitary Sandpiper- trying to hide amongst 8 very lively Killdeer

Wish I could get out to this place for a good day worth of birding but these 3
and 4 hour jaunts have been pleasingly productive. This is quickly becoming my
favorite place in the county.

Good Birding,
Michael Autin,
Louisville
