[birdky] (RPT)Ballard today

Made a quick run to BWMA this afternoon before work. Shorebird habitat
is decent and should get much better at Lower beaver dam slough in
coming weeks. Other habitat exists at Happy hollow lake and Burnt
slough. Most impressive to me was the rail habitat on the east side of
Lower beaver dam slough. This field has not been drained yet and has
some of the best rail habitat I've seen on Ballard. Lots of submergent
vegetation and water depth of 2 to 8 inches on about 10 acres. I
kicked up at least 4 soras and had several repeated flushes in this
area. 3 or 4 people could cover this spot really well and anything
could turn up. Also had 2 likely marsh wrens that proved very
uncooperative. Highlights include

Mallard-10
Blue w-teal 50 +
Redhead - pair
Hooded Merg 25 +
lesser yellowlegs 40 +
Greater yellowlegs 8+
Solitary sp 10+
Snipe 3+
Pectoral sp 4
Sora 4+
