[birdky] RPT: waterfowl at Yatesville

Feb. 21, 2005: I decided to conduct a "backyard bird count" at the
wetlands section of the Yatesville Lake WMA in Lawrence County today. I
was just interested in waterfowl and I was not disappointed. The Great
Egret Wetland has been drained most of the winter in preparation for the
installation of a new water control structure, one that is beaver-proof.
At the back end of the mostly dry wetland is a large patch of buttonbush
where water remains year-round. Sixteen mallards and 24 black ducks
flushed out of the buttonbush. I was impressed by the large number of
black ducks, so I thought I would share that with everyone.
