[birdky] RPT: immature coopers

May 28, 2006: Just after enjoying a listen and look at an adult
broad-winged hawk this morning, I heard the call of a coopers hawk.
Sure enough an immature bird was cruising over the open ridgetop on
which our house sits.  He/she zoomed as close as our neighbor's house
while looking intently at "my" purple martins which did not react oddly
enough.  My presence probably deterred him.  Extensive forests occur to
the north and south of our house and we have seen coopers and
sharp-shinned hawks almost daily this spring.  Last year in July and
August, accipiters harassed the purple martins a few times a week.  We
witnessed some incredible chases but never did see the hawks make a
successful catch.
