[birdky] RPT and RFI: Chuck-will's-widow nest

Thanks to a coworker here at KSNPC, Heather Housman, Amy and I were able to
view a truly rare sight yesterday evening . . . a Chuck-will's-widow on a
nest (two eggs) in Fleming County near Blue Licks State Park. The bird has
been incubating since May 9th and we were afraid she would have moved
already, but she was right there on the woodland floor still. What a neat
sight! At dark, a male began to call several hundred yards away up on top
of a nearby hill; despite his great distance of the female, we suspected
this must be her mate as no others were heard in the area.

Mengel listed only a few actual reports of nests and the KBBA had one that I
need to revisit in my notes to review. A quick check of other notes reveals
a nest in Muhlenberg County in 1968. I wonder if anyone else has ever
observed a Chuck nest or small young? It might be worth a small summary
note. Thanks for anything that anyone can provide.
