[birdky] RPT: West KY November 26, 2002

As previously reported, the Common Ground-Dove was present all morning
yesterday, November 26, 2002, at the same location near the south end of
Lake No. 9. Waterfowl hunting commences on Thanksgiving Day in the area, so
anyone visiting this site Thurs-Sun may have to exercise an increased level
of caution and patience in watching for the bird. We certainly want to keep
local birder - landowner interactions very positive :o)

Little else of note was seen in the area yesterday, although a fairly
sizable flock (several hundred birds) of Greater White-fronted Geese was
using the ag fields to the east of the Lake. Small numbers of Lapland
Longspurs were heard passing over. 100-150 Am White Pelicans were seen on
the MO side of the river.

At Barkley Dam I was greatly disappointed to see the field below the dam
mowed and a brand new fence erected immediately below the dam, itself, the
latter a sign that the changes in our world have truely come home . . . for
the long term. It was very frustrating to think that we will likely never
stand atop the dam and look out on that familiar scene of thousands of
waterfowl and gulls :o(
