Can someone explain how this duck arrived here? I have very poor photos of a
pair that I took at Glacier NP in Montana a couple of years ago and everyone
was excited to see them there. Do these ducks (and other birds not common to
this area) get caught up in winds of a weather front or what?
However, that would not explain the roseate spoonbill seen in Eastern KY last
year or other rare bird sightings in the area.

I received a few emails late yesterday and this morning asking if I ever
heard any more about the Harlequin Duck search. I know that the Bells & Hubers
looked around until early afternoon and that Kathy & Joe Caminiti visited New
Richmond for awhile mid- to late afternoon without luck. Eddie reported seeing
only a few common waterbirds and nothing else unusual while they were in the
area.
Hopefully the bird will show up again; I'm sure at least the local birders
will be out and about this week.
Matt Stickel did get out on the river at Louisville yesterday and reported a
pretty decent variety of diving ducks including the two White-winged Scoters.
