[birdky] RPT: South Shore WMA

A new wildlife management area is located just south of South Shore, KY
along the Ohio River in Greenup County. The area is only 96 acres in
size but 2 large mitigation wetlands adjacent to the river make it a
good birding spot. In addition to today's notable observations (listed
below), I observed a pair of snipe back on March 6, 2004 and in
September of 2003, as many as 2 or 3 American bitterns were present.
Contact me for directions to the site.

Shorebirds: semipalmated plovers (10), least sandpipers (15),
semipalmated sandpipers (17), spotted sandpiper (2), solitary sandpiper
(2), and killdeer (2).

Others: willow flycatcher, tree swallow, immature cooper's hawk, 3 wood
duck broods, 2 mallard broods
