[birdky] RPT: Siskins Increase

About 30 pine siskins graced the feeders today. There were just 4
yesterday. It has been such a long time since I hosted numbers of siskins.
I think I will treat them right and hang some thistle seed this week. Of
course they will leave me as soon as the cold, wind, and snow dissipate a
little bit. I believe they are hanging out this fall/winter due to the
excellent hemlock cone crop in the area. I'll bet the feeders at the Laurel
Gorge Cultural Heritage Center and at Natural Bridge State Park are covered
with siskins too. I worry about what will "anchor" the siskins in future
years once all the hemlocks are dead? But there are plenty of ash tree
seeds, sweet birch seeds, sycamore seeds, and even lots of black gum tree
berries still available in the forest this fall.
