[birdky] RPT: Sedge Wren Nest

Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007: After watching a sedge wren carry nesting
material back on July 28, Rick Seelhorst and I ventured back to South
Shore WMA in Greenup County to look for the nest. We found the nest
after a brief search in the grass of the now dry wetland basin. The
nest was woven into the grasses about one foot above the ground. Eggs
were present in the nest but I did not try to count them. Rick snapped
a couple photos of the nest before quickly departing. From a habitat
viewpoint, we heard and observed all of the wrens in the grasses of the
wetland basins. No wrens were present in the goldenrod-dominated fields
surrounding the wetlands.
