[birdky] RPT: Reformatory Lake, Oldham County

Yesterday evening, my mother and I drove out to the Reformatory Lake outside of
Buckner to watch the Canada Geese come in. When we first arrived about 6:00
p.m. there were only two Canadas on the lake, which was completely open. After
waiting for about 10 minutes, a large mass erupted from the ground up by the
prison and settled down onto the lake. After that, a few other flocks trickled
in until we left about 6:45. Something on the order of about 1000 Canadas came
in overall. A scan of a large part of the group that remained visible on the
lake once settled in yielded a nice total of at least 46 Cackling Geese that
largely split out in small groups of 5 to 15-20 from the larger birds. Based on
the past two years now, it appears that this location might be the most
reliable for Cacklers in the state. Other waterbirds observed included 6 Snow
Geese, 10-15 Northern Shovelers, 4+ Gadwall, 2 American Wigeon, 1 Lesser Scaup,
and 2 female Buffleheads.
