[birdky] Re: RPT: Reformatory Lake, Oldham Co., 1/14/2009

Thanks Brainard for this report. Today I counted nine greater white-fronted
geese through my spotting scope on the upper lake with a bunch of canada's. Saw
serveral of the others mentioned such as snow goose, hooded merganser and
ring-necked duck. The greater white-fronted were lifers, saved me a trip to
far western KY !

Eddie Huber just
called to report a very nice array of waterfowl at the Reformatory Lake outside
of Buckner, Oldham County. This lake is often "empty" during warm winter
periods
and migration, but during periods of cold weather during winter when all other
bodies of water nearby freeze up, it is a waterfowl magnet.

This week's cold
weather will probably cause it to eventually freeze up entirely, but for the
next couple of days it should be a nice place to visit.

Eddie said he has so
far seen Cackling Geese, Snow Geese, Greater White-fronted Geese, about 1000
Canada Geese, Mallard, Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler,
Ring-necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, Redhead, Canvasback, Bufflehead, Hooded
Merganser, and Ruddy Duck.
