CKAS had an outing to Red River Gorge yesterday (Saturday), where we
walked the Rock Bridge loop and the Whistling Arch trail. We had some
great sightings and some frustrating non-sightings. Of the latter, the
Cerulean Warbler and the three Swainson's Warblers we heard but could
not spot were especially frustrating.
We heard lots of Black-and-white Warblers, most of which also seemed
invisible, but eventually had a nice look of one at Whistling Arch. We
also heard a good number of Worm-eating Warblers and saw several of
them, including great looks of an agitated pair that appeared to be
trying to deliver food to a spot near the trail.
Perhaps the best viewing of the day was a Blue-headed Vireo that we
thought we were getting good looks of but then flew much closer yet and
caught, de-winged, and ate a large dragonfly.
