May 17, 2002:
In rushing to post the Red-necked Phalaropes, in neglected to mention other
species that I observed while there. I was in quite a hurry, so I no doubt
missed a few. Here are the species that I observed with number estimates.
Numbers are very rough.
Ruddy Turnstone, (counted) 25 (really pretty breeding plumage)
Dunlin, est. 40 (some in nice breeding plumage)
Semi-palmated Sandpiper, est 50 - 100
Least Sandpiper, est 10 - 20
Semi-palmated Plover, 5+
Spotted Sandpiper, 2
Pectoral Sandpiper, few
Canada Goose and gosslings
Mallard
Rudy Duck (2)
American Coot
That concludes this report.
