[birdky] RPT: Minor Clark Fish Hatchery- golden eagle?

Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007

I believe I observed an immature golden eagle at the fish hatchery
today. The bird flew right over my head just above tree height. The
ventral portion of the tail was half white, anteriorly, and each wing
had a strip of white positioned length-wise across the center of the
wings. Everything else appeared solid brown against the gray sky. I
hesitate to be sure only because I have never seen a golden eagle
before. I have seen plenty of immature bald eagles but this bird looked
like a golden. So if anyone else birds the fish hatchery this week,
please be on the look out for a golden eagle. If someone else can
verify it, then maybe I'm not crazy. The bird was at the back of the
hatchery beyond the ponds into the mix of fields and tree rows.
