[birdky] RPT: Mandarin duck male in McConnell Springs, Lexington

Today (March 15th) around 2pm we've seen a mandarin duck male, mallard male, and mallard female land right in the opening of Blue Hole Spring at McConnell Springs in Lexington. Mandarin then proceeded to court the mallard female with amazing crest displays and mock drinking. Despite being much smaller he was quite successful in chasing away the mallard male. Mallard female didn't seem to mind it at all.

I took some pictures but then I found on the web some really gorgeous images showing that a similar apparent courting behavior was observed in February of 2007 and 2008 at Lexington Cemetery:
