I conducted the Beattyville Breeding Bird Survey route this morning. It
was a wonderfully cool, calm morning in Lee County, and I tallied 69
species plus a Wild Turkey and several Common Grackles in between stops.
This is only the second year I've run this route; no late migrants this
year with all of our recent summer weather. The route did yield 16
species of warblers again this year, with highlights being 8
Blue-wingeds, 2 Black-throated Greens, 7 Ceruleans, 5 Worm-eating, and 3
American Redstarts. Other highlights included flyover Sharp-shinned and
Broad-winged hawks, 3 Blue-headed Vireos, and 3 Blue Grosbeaks.
