[birdky] RPT: KOS weekend at Dale Hollow Lake

Between 60 and 70 members and guests attended this past weekend's fall
meeting of the Society at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park. Just over
100 species were tallied, 93 in Cumberland County on Saturday during the
Fall Count in which about 15 of the attendees took part. The weather was
gorgeous, but like most of the rest of Kentucky, conditions are very
dry.

Fall migrants were unusually and inexplicably scarce. Highlights
included 21 species of warblers including Golden-winged, Cape May, and
Kentucky. Tanagers of both species put on a good show. Waterbirds were
not around yet on the lake. Raptors also were not abundant but at least
one Bald Eagle and a Merlin highlighted the hawk list. A few other
uncommon species encountered included the season's first Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker and Red-breasted Nuthatch, Philadelphia Vireo, and Bobolink.
