Eddie Huber and I spent the afternoon in the vicinity of Cecilia in western
Hardin County. We went out KY 86 west of town and found sizable flocks of
cranes spread over the entire area. We tallied somewhere in the neighborhood of
4500 Sandhills and 2 adult Whoopings. Both Whooping Cranes were on the north
side of KY 86, within the first 1/2 mile west of the Fire Station; they were
not associating with one another. We did loops to the north and south of KY 86
in this vicinity; in addition to sizable groups along KY 86, the biggest flocks
were along KY Tabb Road, Bethlehem Academy Road, and Black Branch Road.
We saw very few other birds in the area, but there was a sub-adult Bald Eagle
watching one of the larger flocks of cranes on the west side of Tabb Road.
