[birdky] RPT: Grouse Food

A grouse hunter here in Rowan County managed to kill a bird earlier this
week.  A partial list of crop contents included black gum berries, sumac
berries, and poison ivy berries.  Berries are still hanging on the black gum
trees as well as the flowering dogwoods.  On the day before Christmas, some
co-workers and I managed to flush 8 grouse on one hillside at Grayson Lake
WMA in Elliott County during the course of some forest inventory.  One bird
was drumming, probably in response to the put-put-put of our ATVs.   The
habitat on this hillside was dominated by scattered mature pine trees with a
thick hardwood understory.
