I have been trying to use the birdlist to provide plans for a kestel nest
box I have. Anyone interested shoud contact me and I will send you the
design. It works, I had a pair use it last March, needs to go up by March 1
or so as I put it up too late in April two years ago.

I took a long lunch this afternoon and drove up to Markland Dam to see
if there were any gulls in the area. On the way up US 127, I had a few
Lapland Longspurs with Horned Larks north of Owenton, Owen Co. Before I
reached the river at Warsaw on KY 35, I went off on Dry Creek Road to
the east about 1.0 mile and there was a field on the right opposite a
golf course that contained a very nice assortment of birds including 75+
Wild Turkeys, 10+ American Pipits, 150+ Horned Larks, 75+ Lapland
Longspurs, and 1 Snow Bunting (there could have been one or two more,
but all I saw was one that had a relatively large wing patch like an
imm. male).
On the Ohio River, I went from below Markland Dam up to the jct. of US
127 at the mouth of Little Sugar Creek, a few miles upstream from
Warsaw. It really looked wintry, with scattered heavy snow showers and
numerous sheets of ice in the river. Observed from the dam to US 127:
Greater White-fronted Goose 1
Canada Goose 800+ (most opposite the mouth of Little Sugar Creek at jct.
US 127 and US 42)
Wood Duck 3
Am. Wigeon 10+
Am. Black Duck 20+
Mallard 100+
No. Pintail 3
Canvasback 20+
Redhead 1
Ring-necked Duck 2
Bufflehead 3
Common Goldeneye 20-25+
Hooded Merganser 10+
Great Blue Heron 3
Am. Coot 2
Ring-billed Gull 50+
Herring Gull 45-50 (most on ice sheets above Markland Dam)
Bald Eagle (juv)
bpb, Frankfort
