[birdky] RPT: Falls of the Ohio, 9/16/2007

The Falls of the Ohio State Park hosted a weekend fossil festival, so the beds
were more full of humans than birds this afternoon, however, one interesting
raptor display was similar to Scott's at South Shore WMA. I walked down to Wave
Rock and upon arriving noted a sub-adult Bald Eagle stooping on an Osprey. I
don't think the Osprey had a fish, but I guess the eagle was going to check it
out just to be sure. As soon as the eagle saw there was nothing to steal, it
broke off the chase, but then the Osprey turned the tables and began stooping
at the much larger eagle, after a couple of stoops, a Peregrine Falcon showed
up to join in chasing away the eagle ... quite a sight! The only waterbirds of
note among the "regulars" including only Killdeer in the shorebird line were
were 6 Caspian Terns.

Earlier in the afternoon, Ben & Mary Yandell and myself revisited the Lou Water
Co basinss on Mayfair Ave to see if the Red-necked Phalarope might have
returned but it was not present.
