Brian Wulker and I visited western Hardin County yesterday afternoon. We may
have seen 750 or so Sandhills in the area; probably not 1000. Most were along
KY 86 in fields on the north side. There is lots of water in the area now. At
other ponds we encountered a few dabbing ducks, 3 Cackling Geese with Canadas,
the local pair of Bald Eagles, a single American Pipit, and a Least Sandpiper.
We had birded for awhile in Meade County, trying to locate the large flock of
Palm Warblers, but did not see anything where they had been. A few Eurasian
Collared-Doves, a few Horned Larks, one flock of Savannah Sparrows, and a
Red-headed Woodpecker were highlights there.
