Jan. 22, 2009: A brown thrasher flew across a gravel road on the Paintsville
Lake WMA in Johnson County. Shrubby hedgerows on both sides of the road
provided suitable habitat. The black vultures were located in Rowan County.
Five of them flew across I-64 to the Rowan Co. dump. There are many gulls
at the dump right now too. I plan to visit the dump with a spotting scope
to find out what else may be lurking. On the west side of Morehead, an
accipiter captured a starling from a swirling group of starlings in the air.
Finally, at my feeders, the siskins have increased to 80. I plan to start
providing water at the feeders as of today.
