I worked at home yesterday and noticed there were more than nomal numbers of
birds outside my work room window. I noticed 6 bluebirds on the fence and
tree, so I decided to investigate. We have several black gum trees that are
heavy with fruit and the birds are trying to defend each berry. I saw the
following either feeding or hanging around.
Black Billed Cuckoo (2) (first ever in my yard)
Flicker (3)
Scarlet Tanager immature
tufted titmouse
Yellow bellied Flycatcher (another first in my yard)
Carolina Chickadee
Bluebirds (6)
Pewee
White breasted Nuthatch (3)
Wild turkey (10 cleaning up the horse feed)
Chipping sparrow
Mourning dove
robins (many)
All in all not bad for a few minutes of watching. By the way, I do have a few
acorns..not many and they are small. No water in any of the small streams,
found one small pothole in Hurricane Branch. Some animal had dug the leaves
out to get to the water. Sad, we need rain. Our pond are nearly dry. Birds
are using the water supply in the yard.
