I went with Barbara Woerner to help lead an Olmstead Parks Conservancy Birding
trip to Iroquois Park only to find it was cancelled because of expected storms,
so we traveled down National Turnpike birding wetlands and other side roads in
between, down Minors Lane South and finally Jefferson Memorial Forest. It was
the kind of day where areas I had been checking all winter finally produced
some of the birds I was hoping to find. The list:

juncos as well as sharply contrasting gray hood from very clean brown back with
just a small area of brown feathers going up the back of the nape to the top of
the crown other than the absence of dark lores head seemed pale enough in some
lights to give impression of Pink-sided Junco I have been studying juncos for

across a junco I suspected of being anything interesting for the better half of
the winter until yesterday
