A few weeks ago, Mark Monroe and I did a Big Day in western Kentucky.
Despite a dismal start to the day, we had a wonderful list of birds from
Land Between the Lakes (33 species of warblers in a little more than 3
hours, for example!), found a GREAT bird during the mid-day doldrums
(Brown-headed Nuthatch) and ended the day with most of the expected
waterbirds at the transient lakes in Christian and Warren counties. In
the process we did 11 better than our previous best of 176 species,
tallied on 5 May 2002 with Michael Bierly of Nashville, for a day list
of 187 species.
Gary Ritchison has posted a narrative of our day on the KOS web site if
anyone is interested in reading more about it.
