Seven observers participated in the Ballard County CBC yesterday, 12/16/2014. I think we tallied 86 species, a bit below average, due in part to breezy conditions and in part due to below-average waterfowl diversity. Been dry in Ballard County this fall and water levels still being pumped up there. Flocks of weedy field/edge habitats were more sparsely distributed than normal. Also missing were the typical thousands of blackbirds, and we missed both Brewer's and cowbird. Highlights included a tardy Great Egret, an adult Golden Eagle on the WMA, a few American Woodcocks, a flock of American Pipits, several flocks of Lapland Longspurs, and BOTH species of vultures ... we often miss one or both for some reason. Thanks to all who participated.
