The avocet was nearer than its morning location. It was standing at the
water's edge on an almost submerged island in the center of the main channel
to the left (east) of the Interpretive Center overlook. I'd guess the bird
to be a juvenile male.

Eddie Huber spotted an American avocet at the Falls of the Ohio in
Louisville this morning. As of 10:15 or so, the bird was still present,
feeding in the pools near the wall across the fossil beds from the
Interpretive Center (on the Indiana side).
Others will probably post more details, but wanted to get the word out.
