This is the first time I've been able to get to my e-mail in awhile, though for
the most part there is nothing particularly interesting to report that hasn't
already been in evidence. A few notes nonetheless:Red River Gorge August 29-31
mostly spent hiking with friends but saw a few thingsSaturday 30
5:00-9:00am-Rough River Trail primitive campground off rte 10Barred Owl-calling
on the other side of canyon
Eastern Screech-Owl-1 calling up the ridge
Whip-poor-will-everywhere calling flying then landing
Worm-eating Warbler-only one first bird at dawn
Black-throated Green Warbler-1 the only one oddly
American Redstart-1 fem. or imm.
Hooded Warbler-2
10:00-3:00pm-Rock Bridge-with friends difficult to keep up while searching for
Swainson's Warbler
Hooded Warbler-4
5:00-8:00pm-Rough Trail-walked very slowly found a few things
Pileated Woodpecker-3 family calling back and forth
Acadian Flycatcher-1 sitting quietly in Rhododendron undergrowth
Solitary Vireo-1 ad. and 3 young my first time watching them on territory
awesome!
Black-throated Green Warbler-1 imm. or fem.
Ovenbird- waiting by a pond for 5 minutes the only bird to put in appearance
Hooded Warbler-3
Sunday August 31-Natural Bridge Resort Park 12:00-5:00pm-quiet except of course
as we had to leave a large pocket of warblers found me and a small pocket
upslope towards Natural Bridge

Black-and-White Warbler-2
American Redstart-2
Black-throated Green Warbler-1
Hooded Warbler-4
other non-avian highlights: a Green Salamander found while searching sandstone
cliffs at night, a Ground Snake, a young Copperhead that slithered across the
campground first night and a baby Rat Snake that fell on me while I was leaning
up against a rock face
September 14 Iroquois Park-8:00-12:30pm-lot of time moving very slowly covering
very little ground- a few birds
Yellow-billed Cuckoo-1 (thought I heard Black-bl. but never called again)
Acadian Flycatcher-1
Tennesse Warbler-1
Golden-Winged Warbler-1 ad. male brief glimpses -first time at the park
Magnolia Warbler-15 easily
Black-throated Green Warbler-2
Bay-breasted Warbler-1
American Redstart-20+ everywhere
Chestnut-sided Warbler-3
Nashville Warbler-2
