[birdky] RFI: Sightings of Black-crowned Night-Herons in the Louisville area

Erin Harper with the Ky. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources is looking
for reports of Black-crowned Night-Herons, especially where they
repeatedly occur at feeding spots. She is hoping to capture some adults
to learn more about their nesting habits. Louisville's nesting
Black-crowned Night-Herons have been causing problems in the residential
areas east of Preston Highway and north of I-264 for a number of years,
and Erin's work is designed to attempt to find out if there is a way to
get them to nest in an area where they are not impacting residential
yards.

Her initial email to me is appended below. Please respond to her at
Erin.Harper@xxxxxx with any information.

Subject: Black-crowned Night-Herons

I am starting a project on Black-crowned Night-Herons that are nesting
in Louisville. I will be putting transmitters on seven birds and follow
them throughout the summer. I will also study nest success of other
birds in the colony. My problem is that Wildlife Services has cut down
most of the nests before we could trap any of the birds. Only a few
birds remain in the old nesting site and are trying to renest. I need to
find where most of the other birds have gone so I can attach the
transmitters. So my question is this: can you send out a notice to the
birders in Louisville to contact me if they see any? I would like to
know the location, time of day, and whether the birds are foraging or
roosting. The transmitters are finally coming in next week, so I really
need to find the birds. I've been searching Louisville for the past two
days, and thought you might be able to help me because I'm not having
much luck. I would really appreciate any help. Thank you.
