Mark, I observed a passel / gaggle / flock / bunch of what appeared to be
Muscovy in late June, 2003 on a creek bank in the middle of east Louisville in
the Breckenridge Lane / Dutchman's Lane area just east of Bowman Field.
They were there for a good number of weeks -- appeared to have set up shop.
Haven't checked for them lately.
Two photos below, have more if you're interested.
Best,
Harold ...
25 January 2006:
On a fairly recent trip to the Hopkins County area, I encountered 3 Muscovy
apparently in a feral state on Lock Mary Reservior at Earlington.
These birds were clearly from domesticated stock with some regresion towards
natural charestics.
In Florida, which is ofen a launchpad for exapnsion of escaped/indroduced
species that have become established, the Muscovy is accepted as a wild bird
by
the official bird records committee and is on the official state list. In
central Florida, this may be the most common waterfowl encountered.
I do not anticipate this situation for Kentucky. However, I am curious.
Are others observing Muscovy in locations other than places where they might
obviously have been introduced such as city parks and farm ponds?
Any response will be appreciated.
