[birdky] RFI: Muscovy

25 January 2006:

On a fairly recent trip to the Hopkins County area, I encountered 3 Muscovy
apparently in a feral state on Lock Mary Reservior at Earlington.

These birds were clearly from domesticated stock with some regresion towards
natural charestics.

In Florida, which is ofen a launchpad for exapnsion of escaped/indroduced
species that have become established, the Muscovy is accepted as a wild bird by
the official bird records committee and is on the official state list. In
central Florida, this may be the most common waterfowl encountered.

I do not anticipate this situation for Kentucky. However, I am curious. Are
others observing Muscovy in locations other than places where they might
obviously have been introduced such as city parks and farm ponds?

Any response will be appreciated.
