[birdky] Quail, Cameras

We heard and saw a bobwhite quail calling just outside our house this morning. Later we heard him calling from the native grass field near the house .We hope the quail are nesting there as they did last year.
Question: At long last I am planning to buy my first digital camera. I would appreciate any suggestions from others who have been first- time users. My choices will be limited to fairly simple, lightweight equipment in a moderate price range. Thanks.
